So many things in this country will compete to grab your attention: The people, the culture, the food and the land itself. Each of them has something unique to offer.
Today though, we’ll only be talking about some of Osaka’s most famous and frequented attractions. Japan has many of them but these 3 are at the top of the list.
- Osaka-jo
Maybe you’ve been in a European medieval castle, but the Osaka Castle is a far cry from what you know. Save for the moat, there is nothing here that bears any resemblance to European culture. Every inch of this giant and magnificent structure is something to gawk at.
Built more than 500 years ago in the year 1583, it took a mind-boggling 100,000 workers to complete it. The current castle is a renovation because the original one was destroyed centuries earlier, but it will still leave you amazed once you see it.
Renovation or no, the Osaka Castle is one of the most impressive buildings in Japan. The castle rises in the heart of a beautiful leafy park with a moat going around its entire width.
Mind you, we’ve just been talking about the castle’s exterior thus far. Go inside it for an even greater experience. You will see a selection of ancient weapons and art that tell of an era we only know of from history books.
One of the best parts of the castle tour is when you get to the observation deck erected on the 8th floor. You can’t help but marvel at the panoramic vistas at the opposite park. It’s truly a magnificent sight to behold.
- Kamigata Ukiyoe Museum
The Osaka Castle may have given you a taste of Japanese art but the Kamigata Ukiyoe museum expands on that. You can learn so much about ukiyo-e, a form of a Japanese print, in this museum. For lovers of art, this place enlightens you on one of Japan’s lesser-known handicrafts.
- Sumiyoshi Shrine
The Sumiyoshi Shrine is the oldest of all the Shinto shrines in Japan, not just Osaka. Get this: It was built over 1,800 years ago. Now tell us that’s not incredible.
Age has not marred its beauty in the least, because visitors agree it’s one of the most beautiful of the Shinto shrines. Some say it’s one of a kind, even. This is in large part because of its dainty look and design. Osaka is proud to say it is the home of these prized monuments.
Geauxing Places Travel is proud to say it can book your trip to the Sumiyoshi Shrine and many other structures rising all over Osaka. It’s unlikely you’ve never heard of us but in case you haven’t, we are a travel agency based in Denham Springs, Louisiana.
